Room For Improvement: Garden nursery

Posted: 01/18/07

This empty Bay State room just won't work, because of two big reasons! David and Michelle Martino are about to give birth to twins!

Michelle Martino, Homeowner
"For us it was a challenge. What do we do? Where do we start? What do we need?"

They started to redo the room, but dad admits the closet caught him off guard.

David Martino, homeowner
"I didn't know how many shelves I wanted to put in there. The coat rack that was in there was too high for little kids."

The Martino’s were crying mayday until organizer Ann Marie Williams and designer Kristin Sullivan arrived.

Soon this room is pretty in pink with delicate daisy's painted on the walls. There are details everywhere, even up high.

Kristin Sullivan, Portfauxlio Room Decor
"To make the room bigger, we went with the pink on the ceiling, also instead of cutting it off and doing a white ceiling."

Allen Frechter with Great Garage and Closets brings in adjustable shelving and more.

Allen Frechter, Great Garage and Closets
"I wanted to make sure they had a closet that works for them now and works for them 10 years from now."

A great tips for expectant parents: do not waist money on a new changing table. You can add a contour changing pad to the top of a bureau.

Ann Marie Williams, Atmosphere Consulting
"It will be a changing table for a short time. Then, the bureau will last much longer."

There is two of everything in this room.

To keep the closet organized, these clips help separate the outfits by their size.

And here is one of the best ideas we've seen: painted window boxes on the inside.

Kristin Sullivan, Portfauxlio Room Decor
"The window boxes I actually had done in my daughters' room when we had a smaller room ourselves. I was trying to think of someplace I could put all their stuff animals."

So mom and dad, is this room ready for two peas in a pod?

David Martino, homeowner
"Wow. Look at it honey. Now we got some room."

Michelle Martino, homeowner
"It is absolutely beautiful."

David Martino, homeowner
"Now this is a room."

Our designers spent $800 on this room, and they got it done just in time. The twins are expected to arrive next week.

The Martino Family thanks Easton Concrete Cutting and Drilling for their generosity.
