Special Report: Lose Weight On The Cookie Diet
I would have to kill myself with this picture, Lillian said.
Why? What happened? Why did I let this happen? Robyn said.
I felt like a sausage in my clothes, Nancy said.
These women are talking about fat.
Specifically, how fat they felt they were before starting on the "cookie diet." Its a diet that's helping the pounds crumble away.
Most lose between twelve and fifteen pounds per month on the cookie diet. Eating six cookies during the daytime, then a dinner of six ounces of protein and two cups of vegetables.
"It was hard for the first couple of days, I'll be honest with you, Robyn said.
"You do the diet and it works, Nancy said.
"The cookies have a blend of fibers, protein and amino acids that naturally suppress your appetite - so the cookies help to fill you up, family practitioner Dr. Scott Greenberg said.
Each dieter gets a full medical exam for $250, followed by $100 monthly exams. The cookies cost $4 a day. But some experts say that eating only 800 calories a day isn't enough.
"The lower the calories a person is eating and the more rapidly they lose weight, the more rapidly they regain it, Dr. Albert Stunkard of the University of Pennsylvania said.
But these women are thrilled. Lillian lost 30 pounds in two months. Robyn lost 15 pounds in only one month, and Nancy lost 36 pounds in two and a half months. They said it was worth giving up their favorite foods.
"Nothing tastes as good as thin feels, Robyn said.
The cookies come in oatmeal raisin, chocolate and coconut. What makes them palatable is the average weight loss is one pound of fat every two or three days.
