Contest winner gets to feed 500-pound sea turtle

BOSTON -- A creative 5-year-old was to get up close and personal with one of the biggest residents of the New England Aquarium.

D.J. Siccardi, of Westborough, had the opportunity to feed the aquarium's giant 500-pound sea turtle as a reward for winning a photo contest held back in December.

The contest required contestants to take photos or make images that resembled turtles.

Submissions were made online and the aquarium had dozens to pick from, but thought D.J.'s photo really captured the essence of what they were looking for.

"DJ is sitting in front of a beautiful snow sculpture and it's this wonderful snow creation that says hey, turtles are here in New England, and we can see them at the Aquarium and his photo really spoke to that," said Jeff Ives, of the New England Aquarium.
