'Assembly on the Mystic' to boost economy in Somerville
SOMERVILLE, Mass. -- Officials are revamping the Assembly Square area into a more appealing commercial district.
Senator John Kerry says 20,000 permanent jobs will come from the hotel, retail, and office space going up in “Assembly on the Mystic,” a multi-use development currently under construction.
Kerry said the project will benefit from the president’s economic stimulus bill.
"The money is already ready to flow. We talked with the Governor about guaranteeing that this money flows as fast as possible to projects like this, so it's really a question of days and weeks."
Assembly on the Mystic will also create 8,000 temporary positions until it opens in 2011.
"This is the perfect example of how public investment can have such an incredible return,” said Somerville’s mayor, Joe Curtatone.
