Residents forced to leave illegal apartment

BOSTON -- Boston Inspectional Services checked out about a dozen suspected illegal apartments in East Boston on Wednesday.

Inspectors said that they found one apartment at 223 Saratoga Street with several violations and told the four people living there to leave immediately.

The apartment had no windows, no ventilation and a strong gas odor.

The inspections came just weeks after a fire inside an illegal apartment killed a man and his two children in Quincy.
