1-year-old killed in Manchester, NH, house fire
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- A 1-year-old boy died in Manchester, N.H., in a house fire too intense at first for firefighters to attempt a rescue.
Fire Chief James Burkush says firefighters tried heroically to reach the boy Wednesday night but intense flames and heat kept them back.
Neighbor Don Reilly says flames were shooting straight into the air from windows on the top floor of the 2 1/2-story home, WMUR-TV reported.
The baby was pronounced dead at a hospital after firefighters got inside and brought him out in a white towel.
Quantay Williams -- who said he is the boy's uncle -- identified him as Javen White and said he lived with his mother Kristen and two other children. She also was taken to a hospital.
Burkush said firefighters were having a difficult time emotionally.
