Father hit while putting child in car seat dies of injuries

BOSTON -- The father hit by a car while putting his child into a car seat in Brighton has passed away from his injuries.

Freddy Eduardo Latin Zepeda, 35, died at Massachusetts General Hospital after he was hit on Wednesday.

The driver accused of injuring Zepeda and leaving the scene was in court Thursday.

Police said Cathy Birgen-August, 47, of Watertown, did not stop after hitting the victim at Cambridge Street and Gordon Street just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said Birgen-August drove down the street until witnesses blocked her in.

Investigators said prescription medication was found on the driver.

Bergin-August pleaded not guilty to charges of negligent operation and leaving the scene of an accident in Brighton District Court on Thursday and was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail.

Prosecutors say she will likely face additional charges.
