Hawk shocked by power-lines in Danvers

DANVERS, Mass. -- A red-tailed hawk is lucky to be alive following a run-in with some high-voltage power lines.

The hawk flew into a power substation and knocked out electricity in the area of Route 114 earlier this month.

When rescuers found the bird was not moving. The bird's feathers on one wing had melted off.

Veterinarians at the Danvers Animal Hospital said they are fortunate to have reached the hawk when they did.

Special treatment over the last month has helped the hawk on his road to recovery.

The hawk is eating well and is aggressive towards visitors, which vets said is a sign that it is recovering well.

The bird will be transferred to a wildlife facility run by Tufts to continue its rehabilitation.
