Drew Barrymore in town promoting new film

BOSTON -- Actress and new director Drew Barrymore was in town Wednesday hoping to "whip up" support for her new movie.
The movie called "Whip Up" is Barrymore's directorial debut.
Barrymore greeted fans in South Boston and met with members of Boston's roller derby community.
Her new film documents a rebellious small town beauty queen who throws in her beauty pageant crown for the rowdy world of roller derby.
"My big themes for this movie are find your tribe and be your own hero and we can all be little heroes to ourselves and others. Derby is a very fun, empowering, exhibitionist, fun, ruckus sport, but it's athletic and it's capable and these girls bond. I like women who are tough and like to be challenged but are sisters to each other," Barrymore said.
There was a sneak preview on Boston Common Wednesday, but the film premieres Oct. 2.
