BOW, N.H. -- Firefighters from at least six New Hampshire communities are fighting a fire at the Merrimack Station power plant in the town of Bow.

Officials say the fire was reported at about 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Concord Deputy Fire Chief says his department sent an engine and ladder truck to help fight the blaze that began as an electrical fire.

Merrimack Station produces 478 megawatts of power and supplies 189,000 customers.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says the plant operates on two coal-fired steam turbines and other turbines that are only used when there is great demand for power.
