Marine killed in Afghanistan laid to rest

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. -- A local Marine killed in Afghanistan was laid to rest on Friday.
Thursday night, friends and family members held a candlelight vigil at Community Field in North Attleborough.
A funeral service for helicopter pilot captain Kyle Van De Giesen took place at St. Mary’s church in North Attleborough. He will be buried at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Van De Giesen, 29, died Oct. 26 in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan just days before he was scheduled to come home.
He leaves behind his pregnant wife and an 18-month-old daughter.
