Dramatic rescue on MBTA orange line

BOSTON, Mass. -- A woman stumbled onto the tracks at North Station on the orange line after the Celtics game around 10:30 Friday night.
Witnesses say that the 26-year old woman came within inches of losing her life.
“She just fell in. She was standing at the edge, she was intoxicated and she must have gotten wobbly and just fell in,” says MBTA police sergeant Paul Carroll.
People waiting on the platform saw her fall and signaled the train operator to throw on the emergency brakes and stop just in time, coming within inches of hitting the woman.
Police say the woman was flailing her arms and witnesses begged her to stay still as she came dangerously close to hitting the third rail with 600 volts of electricity running through it.
The woman escaped with only scrapes and bruises.
Police say the woman had been at the Celtics game and was highly intoxicated at the time of the incident. She will not face any charges.
