DORCHESTER, Mass. -- A pair of young victims is injured by pit bulls in separate incidents less than 24 hours apart.
Zayre Morant (pictured), 7, was reportedly playing outside on Jacobs Street in Dorchester around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday when the dog charged through a neighbor's fence and bit the young victim on his back and right arm.
Louis Santos Jr., 12, tried to get the dog off his friend with a baseball bat.
Zayre was taken to Boston Medical Center. He is scheduled for surgery next week.
The pit bull is one of two dogs belonging to Zayre's neighbor, who lives at 31 Jacob St.
The dogs were taken away by Animal Control after the attack and will both be put down. Their owner has been cited for numerous pet-related violations.
Other neighbors say they had problems with the dogs in the past.
On the same day a dog attack sent Zayre to the hospital, a 3-year-old girl was bitten by a pit bull outside her home on 15 Pond St. She was treated and is expected to be OK.
