Recent pair of police car accidents leaves Haverhill residents in shock

HAVERHILL, Mass. -- For the second time within a week, a policeman is the victim of a cruiser crash in Haverhill.
Authorities believe Officer William Mears, 36, had a medical emergency, possibly a seizure, while driving on patrol. As a result, his car reportedly plowed into David Longo's parked truck around noon on Memorial Day at 280 Mill St.
Young Tiffany Gadd rushed to help the officer, calling 911.
"You could see his mouth foaming," said Gadd. "He was just sitting there unconscious."
Gadd said the truck saved Mears' vehicle from potentially ending up in a nearby lake.
Mears, a former DARE officer and 12-year law enforcement veteran, was taken to Holy Family Hospital in Metheun with minor injuries. Doctors are expected to investigate whether Mears did suffer a seizure.
Just last Monday, a second Haverhill policeman got into an accident while responding to an incident.
