NANTUCKET -- An immigration raid is targeting convicted criminals on the island of Nantucket.

A spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement says agents are doing a targeted enforcement today, rounding up convicted criminals whose convictions make them ineligible to remain in the U.S. ICE says those being sought have been convicted on a variety of charges, including drug offenses and assault and battery.

ICE calls the raid a public safety operation but isn't saying how many people are being sought.

Many immigrants from Central America, South America and Eastern Europe work on the island during the busy summer tourism season.
