Brother of slain boy taken into custody

BOSTON -- The teenage half-brother of the 8-year-old boy who was accidentally shot to death in Dorchester is in custody.

Police said the 16-year-old is being held on a probation violation that came to light during the investigation into the fatal shooting. Investigators are trying to determine who brought the unregistered illegal gun into the home where Liquarry Jefferson was accidentally shot by his 7-year-old cousin Sunday night.

Police found the 9-millimeter semiautomatic hidden in a stairway of the four-story apartment building where the family lives.
