Firefighters knock down blaze in Navy ship

BOSTON -- Firefighters knocked down a blaze in the bowels of a Navy cargo ship, but it wasn't easy.

Sixty firefighters needed 600 feet of hose to get to the fire in the steering gear room in the stern of the ship, Sisler.

It took a half hour just to find the fire.

The fire department spokesman compared it to fighting a fire on the third floor of a 15-story windowless building.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.

The Sisler had been in dry dock since June.
