BROOKLINE, Mass. -- A man was brutally beaten by a group of teenagers, possibly as part of a gang initiation.

The victim, who is in his 30s, was riding his bike along the scenic riverway near the Longwood MBTA station when he was attacked.

Police believe that the suspects, maybe as young as 14, attacked the victim as part of a gang initiation.

"We're leaning towards maybe it was an initiation, they described them as wearing possibly some gang colors," Captain John O'Leary, Brookline Police Department, said.

Police say the teens, wearing blue bandanas, waited in the dark. As the victim rode by, one of the suspects used a 2x4 to brutally beat the biker.

The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

Police are warning the public not to ride alone after dark.
