Man lighting fireworks in road struck and killed by car

PALMER, Mass. -- A driver faces charges after he fatally struck a man with his car Friday night.

The 39-year-old victim was lighting fountain fireworks in the middle of Pleasant Street.

19-year-old Brian Dickson of Monson was driving down the street and hit the man when he sped up to run over the fireworks.

The victim, who friends identify as “Dave,” was taken to Wing Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Dickson faces charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, speeding and reckless operation resulting in a homicide.
