"Greater Boston Walk for Autism" raises over $1 million

BOSTON -- More than 20,000 people participated in the “Greater Boston Walk for Autism” at Suffolk Downs racetrack Sunday morning.

7News helped sponsor the event that is aimed at raising money and increasing awareness about autism, a health crisis that now affects one in every 150 children.

The event rose over $1 million for much needed funds that will go to critical scientific research.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino spoke and presented a proclamation declaring October 19 to be the Greater Boston Autism Awareness Day.
