Shocking surge causes problems for local homeowners

SCITUATE, Mass. -- A new power transformer has caused headaches for some Scituate residents.
National Grid installed the new transformer Thursday, however the equipment was not compatible and created an “overload of power.” The power surge affected an entire block on Fieldstone Road.
“I was sitting at the kitchen table and everything started to pop in my refrigerator, my stove, I didn’t know what it was,” Lorraine Rochford, resident, said.
The power went out for several hours after the initial surge, however when the lights came back on, some appliances were still out.
“We lost one computer, the clock radios, we lost the refrigerator downstairs, the electric fence for the dog,” Bill Taylor, resident, said.
National Grid went door to door handing out letters of apology to everyone who was affected. The company says that they will pay to repair any damaged appliances.
No one was hurt by the power surge.
