Acquisition of Garnett could make C's a contender

BOSTON -- The addition of Kevin Garnett to the Celtics starting five could help transform the team almost immediately.

The All-Star forward is leaving Minnesota after Boston agreed to acquire the All-Star forward in a multiplayer trade with the Timberwolves.

Earlier this year, the Celtics acquired seven-time All-Star guard Ray Allen from Seattle in a draft day deal.

Teaming those two up with Paul Pierce gives the Celtics some instant credibility after years of disappointment.

Boston has won just three playoff series during Pierce's nine years with them. They still have an NBA-record 16 championships, but none since 1986.
