Spring Forward

The hour of sleep is lost, but the fact that Winter's grip will soon subside, is not.   Still lots of snow to melt, and for that, we need the help of the sun.  Sunshine is most abundant away from the coastline today and that restarts the snowmelt process we had yesterday.  Before that process restarts, be careful of slick spots this morning on driveways, sidewalks, and secondary roads as black ice formed overnight.  After 10:00AM, that should become less of a problem as temps rise above freezing.

Yesterday, we sure had an interesting temperature pattern with highs in the upper 30s at the coast to the mid 50s outside 495!  The reason for that was the onshore wind. Water temps are only running in the mid 30s to lower 40s.  Giving that the overall pattern doesn't look much different today, we may indeed see a similar temperature pattern this afternoon.

Temps warm-up even more Monday and Tuesday, and that means 50s for many!  Monday still features mid to upper 40s at the immediate coast, but warm enough to melt more snow.  Tuesday brings us rain... and it WILL be rain this time.  Depending on how the evolution of a wave of low pressure forms along this front, we could wring out at least an inch of rain.  While that wouldn't cause significant river flooding, we may see swollen streams from snowmelt and rain, and I certainly can see us dealing with big puddles/ponding on the roads for the Tuesday evening commute.

Wednesday is a transition day.  We'll near 50 by mid-day, but that active west wind advects in cold air late in the day and by Thursday morning, you'll feel the difference.   A colder pattern is where we stay into the weekend.

The last day of spring will be fantastic! What a way to close the books on the vernal season. As our weather producer, Jim Colman says...."what a season it was..rain, snow, wind, sun and more rain" Truth Jim, truth. Only sun today with afternoon temps in the upper 70s--a great day for all outdoor activities.

Just In Time

Summer officially starts Friday at 1:04 A.M., and Mother Nature's sending in summer weather for us just in time.  Mid to late June averages highs near 80 degrees, and we'll be there temperature-wise over the next few days.  Mostly dry too!

I hope I'm not jinxing us with this statement.."The recent wet pattern is over....onto sunshine & a more summer- like pattern.." The last time someone from 7 weather called a pattern change too soon we got a blizzard and 3 subsequent nor'easters (looking at you Pete!!--LOL). We don't have to worry about any blizzards or nor'easters but one never knows in the new world order.
