Favoring The Cold
Posted by Pete Bouchard
Got a cold wakeup call this morning. And the afternoon wasn't much better. Chilly breezes, limited sun...it had all the makings of an early winter day.
We'll be letting that "marinate" for a while. The pattern is cold, and the sun will be limited. I've tried to move the numbers, but there are no outward signs of warmth...anywhere. So I favor the cold and don't stray far from 40 for the next 7 days.
Seems like a long haul, eh? Well, it is. And if you follow my forecasts, I'll be the first to pitch a 70 degree day in the long range. This time of year, I babysit the mid levels of the atmosphere, searching for ANY sign of a warmup. If the numbers show some milder air, I know the sun will fill in the blanks.
So far the Magic 8 Ball says, "Don't count on it."
One thing the cold will do is drive away the storms - for now. Saturday's light snow event is now completely off. Just some high clouds coming through from time to time. Sunday is dry as well.
Monday, a big high pressure system will park itself over New England and set the table for a messy mix of snow/ice/rain for Monday night and Tuesday. It's a case of an irresistable force meeting an immovable object. High pressure wants to stay and low pressure wants to come in. We're in the middle, and we're left picking up the mess. Snow amounts are still too early to call, but I'm not looking at a blockbuster thanks to the changeover to ice and rain.
More details to follow. Stay warm in the meantime.

So it's the unofficial start of summer this weekend and officially, the average high this time of year hits 70 degrees. So you'd think we have a good shot at BBQ weather right? Not much of a chance today with highs reaching near 50 this morning, only to fall back into the low to mid 40s this afternoon as a cold rain settles in.

Rain, rain, rain...
...but for many today was a day of hurry up and wait. Sure there were showers, but not every minute was washed out. With the events unfolding tonight, that's about to change.

Come On Ride The Train

Heavy rain is on the move! All afternoon long it was stalled over Western Massachusetts and Connecticut. Heavy pulses of rain traveled over the same towns and cities - a process meteorologists call "training" - resulting in flash flooding in some counties to our west.
