What Spring?
Posted by Chris Lambert
Halfway through the month of March and this is the time to turn the corner and head into Spring right? Not so fast... Mother Nature has some catching up to do. Also, we're still waiting on whether the Groundhog has anything to say for himself.
This morning is cold, no way of getting around that. Temperatures this morning run near 20 degrees, but with the wind, it'll feel more like the single digits. At least we'll have the sunshine this morning to help warm us up to 40 by this afternoon. Near 40 is a common theme through the weekend and through next week.
It'll be dry through the weekend, including St. Paddy's Day, which features more sun than clouds and a bit of a breeze. Highs Sunday near.... you guessed it, 40.
The next storm to track is slated for Monday night and Tuesday. With enough cold air in place, it'll start as snow for most, quickly going to rain along the immediate coast, and slowly transitioning to mixed precip and then to rain inland. While it's too early to throw out snow totals, the best chance for at least several inches of snow would best north and west of 495, especially across the higher terrain. Bottom line, expect a messy commute Tuesday morning, no matter if you get snow, or a cold rain creating big puddles.
Spring arrives at 7:02 Wednesday morning, spring weather however, does not. Highs are stuck in the upper 30s with a cold northwest wind.

That's A Wrap--I Think

I hope I'm not jinxing us with this statement.."The recent wet pattern is over....onto sunshine & a more summer- like pattern.." The last time someone from 7 weather called a pattern change too soon we got a blizzard and 3 subsequent nor'easters (looking at you Pete!!--LOL). We don't have to worry about any blizzards or nor'easters but one never knows in the new world order.

If you were caught in those 'cloudbursts' today, you had more than you could handle in the rain department. Torrents fell in a short amount of time - what we deem 'flash flooding' in the weather biz. Since it happens suddenly, the National Weather Service has adopted the acronym TADD:

Bam. Pow! Those were some nasty storms last evening with some towns in metrowest & the city itself blasted with locally heavy rain, hail, lightning and strong wind gusts. A cool front is the culprit and that front will linger across the region again today. That means another round of some scattered showers & t-storms likely.
