Can We Get March 2012 Back?

Let's start with the good news.  The weather remains dry through the weekend with some sunshine,  most of it coming this morning and again Sunday.

Sooo... that's where my good news ends.  The bad news?  It'll still remain cool with a reinforcing shot of cold air pouring in tonight.  To get that cold air to hold its ground, we need a strong NW wind on Sunday.  That we'll have as well.  With high temperatures running in the mid to upper 30s, the wind chill factor hovers in the upper 20s Sunday afternoon.  Do you have your green layers ready?!

The colder than average pattern holds through next week.  The problem is, a storm also comes marching in Monday night and Tuesday.  Snow and mixed precip break out after midnight Monday night. With winds increasing out of the east to southeast, the city and coastal communities will see a quick change to rain.  Between 128 and 495, that transition takes longer, with perhaps up to a couple inches of slop still on the ground for the morning commute.  Outside 495, the battle to changeover to rain is even slower.  Several inches of snow/sleet are possible north and west of 495, included the city of Worcester.  The best chance to see 6+" is the higher terrain of northern Worcester County, into southern NH, west of Route 3.  Clearly it's not the biggest storm we've had, but enough to make a messy Tuesday AM commute, and enough for some to use those shovels and plows again. 

The storm wraps up late Tuesday afternoon, with just some leftover snow showers north and west of Boston Tuesday night.

Officially, Spring arrives Wednesday at 7:02AM.  Unofficially, we'll still be in Winter mode with highs in the upper 30s.  The 2nd and 3rd days of Spring don't look much better temperature wise.

Remember last March?  The 6 day stretch of March 18th-23rd averaged 75.3 degrees for the high, with a peak of 83 degrees on the 22nd.  Can we get last March back?

I hope I'm not jinxing us with this statement.."The recent wet pattern is over....onto sunshine & a more summer- like pattern.." The last time someone from 7 weather called a pattern change too soon we got a blizzard and 3 subsequent nor'easters (looking at you Pete!!--LOL). We don't have to worry about any blizzards or nor'easters but one never knows in the new world order.

If you were caught in those 'cloudbursts' today, you had more than you could handle in the rain department. Torrents fell in a short amount of time - what we deem 'flash flooding' in the weather biz. Since it happens suddenly, the National Weather Service has adopted the acronym TADD:

Bam! Pow!

Bam. Pow! Those were some nasty storms last evening with some towns in metrowest & the city itself blasted with locally heavy rain, hail, lightning and strong wind gusts. A cool front is the culprit and that front will linger across the region again today. That means another round of some scattered showers & t-storms likely.

Thunderous Start to Workweek

Heat and a bit of humidity fed a strong - and sometimes severe - line of thunderstorms today. By the time the dinner hour rolled around (6pm-ish), the storms had consolidated into a line. Everyone got a drink of water and a big drop in temperatures - some falling nearly 20 degrees in minutes!
