Mom, It's Not My Fault

Posted by Chris Lambert

How many of you moms have heard the line of this blog's title over the years?  Yup, and just like your kids, I've used that one myself back in the day.  This go around, I can say "It's not my fault" and be correct.  Of course, I'm referencing the rain.  If it were up to me, Sunday would feature 80 degree weather, low humidity and sunny skies.  Unfortunately, it's not up to me and I have to deliver the message of showers around on Sunday for the first half of the day.

First things first, we deal with this evening's rain.  Believe it or not, the showers and clouds we had during the afternoon helped us out.  The atmosphere was stable enough, thanks to the lack of heating from the sun, that we didn't have the threat of severe weather.  Some of the storms where it did warm up, in NJ and NYC, were quite nasty, producing severe thunderstorm warnings and some wind damage.  However, the line of showers and rumbles of thunder that slide in here early this evening tend to fade in intensity.  Keep the umbrella handy, we'll have some showers, but don't expect thunderstorms to rock the house.  The exception to that is this evening across and south of Route 44 in Plymouth and Bristol Counties.  There, we do have powerful storms roll through this evening, producing torrential rains and frequent lightning.  Those storm affect the Cape overnight as well.

Ok, back to the "it's not my fault" thing.  The line of showers that roll in tonight are along a front that stalls out across the area.  That front lingers in here during tomorrow morning, waiting for a secondary batch of energy to kick it offshore.  That'll happen tomorrow afternoon, but before it does, a few more showers and maybe a rumble of thunder are produced along that front.  I'd keep the umbrella handy if your taking mom out to breakfast or lunch, but if it's a cookout mid to late afternoon... we're dry by then with temps between 65-70.

Cooler air rushes in to begin next week.  It'll be dry, but if you have outdoor plants in the burbs, keep an eye on Monday night's and Tuesday night's temps.  It could be a couple of frosty nights.

Happy Mother's Day mom!

50/50 Weekend

Posted by Chris Lambert

We're off to an iffy start to the weekend as nuisance rain and wet snow moves across the area.  While it's not a well organized area of low pressure, it develops right near us midday, and that'll be enough for a tricky forecast.  Light to moderate  rain/snow is on and off early this morning with a heavier burst of precipitation possible late morning, through mid afternoon in eastern MA (11:00AM-3:00PM).

Final Days

Posted by Pete Bouchard

That's the way to get it done! Fine finish to the workweek as sun dominated and winds behaved.

I submit that is the one - and perhaps only - reason these days have felt springlike in this extended thaw. If the winds were gusty on a day like today, the sun (albeit a little stronger these days) is really no help.

Great Mid-Winter Weather

Posted by Jeremy Reiner

Nice mid-winter weather? Here's how I envision it:

*Sunshine

*Mild temps (40 or higher)

*Little to no wind

That last bullet point (IMO) is probably the biggest when outside this time of year. After our morning fog lifts out of here all three of those criteria will be met this afternoon AND.....it's Friday. #Winning.

Colder Temperatures Cometh

Posted by Pete Bouchard

As far as blah days go, this was the blahest.

Fog blanketed the area as winds remained light and variable. We're still looking at some fog, but the thickest part of it should only be during the first half of the night. After that, gentle winds should "mix out" some of the heavily fogged in areas.
