Closing The Books

Posted by Jeremy Reiner

I did like yesterday's fall preview but I still have some summer fun left in me. So does Mother Nature and it happens today as we see sunshine, humidity & 80 degree weather return. It's a great summer day for anything planned outside and the nice weather will linger into this evening as well. the challenge will be keeping the free and easy feeling going through the holiday weekend.

Here's why it's going to be challenging. A cool front will approach New England during the day on Saturday, sparking off scattered showers mainly across northern & western New England---this part of the world should be OK. Look for temps to reach the mid 80s with a healthy dose of humidity.

On Sunday that cool front will be very weak and draped across southeast Mass. Plan on some leftover scattered showers along & south of the MA Pike for a few hours on Sunday morning but otherwise it's dry despite a fair amount of clouds. On Labor Day, this front gets a jolt of energy and will be able to pop scattered showers across much of New England (sans the Cape/Islands until late day) for much of the day. Humidity will be high with temps in the upper 70s. Have fun & be safe this weekend.

Summer 2013 recap:

* 11 of the 15 weekends were completely dry (Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day weekend).

* Overall, the summer was warm & wet.

* June was 3rd wettest June on record (Boston)

* July was hot hot hot with 12 90 degree days--the hottest being 99 on July 19th

* August will finish dry & slightly cooler than normal.

Ready for fall colors & pumpkins.

50/50 Weekend

Posted by Chris Lambert

We're off to an iffy start to the weekend as nuisance rain and wet snow moves across the area.  While it's not a well organized area of low pressure, it develops right near us midday, and that'll be enough for a tricky forecast.  Light to moderate  rain/snow is on and off early this morning with a heavier burst of precipitation possible late morning, through mid afternoon in eastern MA (11:00AM-3:00PM).

Final Days

Posted by Pete Bouchard

That's the way to get it done! Fine finish to the workweek as sun dominated and winds behaved.

I submit that is the one - and perhaps only - reason these days have felt springlike in this extended thaw. If the winds were gusty on a day like today, the sun (albeit a little stronger these days) is really no help.

Great Mid-Winter Weather

Posted by Jeremy Reiner

Nice mid-winter weather? Here's how I envision it:

*Mild temps (40 or higher)

*Little to no wind

That last bullet point (IMO) is probably the biggest when outside this time of year. After our morning fog lifts out of here all three of those criteria will be met this afternoon's Friday. #Winning.

Colder Temperatures Cometh

Posted by Pete Bouchard

As far as blah days go, this was the blahest.

Fog blanketed the area as winds remained light and variable. We're still looking at some fog, but the thickest part of it should only be during the first half of the night. After that, gentle winds should "mix out" some of the heavily fogged in areas.
