Oh snap....wind chills at 7am ranged from 6 in Worcester to 16 in downtown Boston....that's typical of a day in early January! This arctic blast is no joke---I chatted with an old colleague from Charlotte, NC last evening---he was on a lake early afternoon boating as temps were near 65 and while driving home for dinner around 7pm, he drove through snow showers!!! I have a feeling winter may try to get off to a fast start this year. Time will tell.
In any event, today is a cold winter-like day with temps struggling to make it to 40 by afternoon despite a day full of sunshine! We are cold again tonight with lows heading back down into the lower 20s under a mainly clear sky but as we roll from Wednesday night into Thursday our cold blast begins to melt. It will take some time (and wind power) to move this milder air into New England but by afternoon, those thermometers should be up near 50 degrees! even warmer (better?) weather by Friday under a partly sunny sky--most towns will see the upper 50s!
The mild air looks to stay with us through the weekend & early next week. In terms of storminess, it remains dry until Monday-Tuesday of next week. At that time, rain showers (not snow) will be with us.
